We are using a step-down transformer (12-0-12V) in this emergency tube light circuit, with the secondary (12-0-12V) center-tapped terminals attached to a switching pulse circuit and the main winding terminal connected to a 20-watt fluorescent light. The switching signal delivered to the switching power transistor Q1 is controlled by the variable resistor VR1 and the capacitor C1. This transistor causes an EMF on the transformer's secondary winding when it connects and disconnects it from the battery source. The main winding's EMF increases, and there is enough power to run a 20-watt fluorescent lamp.
